The blanking and forming of materials in cold condition is done in many different application such as; shearing, punching, cold forging, drawing, cold extrusion, rolling and powder pressing.
All applications include high mechanical forces and sliding contact between the tool surface and the work material. There are high demands on tool hardness to give wear resistance and resistance to plastic deformation. In order to improve the wear resistance further some of the cold work steel grades are highly alloyed giving hard particles (carbides) in the matrix. The combination of high hardness and hard carbides is however also impairing the machinability.
MD Exports LLP can provide you with tool steels from a program of high quality tool steels covering all your demands. Low alloyed carbon tool steel grades, high-alloyed conventional metallurgy grades as well as powder metallurgical grades. Depending on the application, the work material and the production series, a cold work tool steel program and high speed steel program will contain grades with different combinations of:
- Wear resistance
- Resistance to plastic deformation
- Chipping resistance
- Total cracking resistance
- Good machinability and grind ability
Cold work steel is exposed to high stresses and requires great resistance against wear, impact and bending. The development of new steel grades is mainly guided by analyzing damage suffered by tools in various processes. In each area of use, properties are sought which will extend the working life of the tool. Different types of wear demand different types of steel. Product development is moving towards producing more robust steels with higher resistance to wear and greater durability.
We can help the tool user to choose the right steel and heat treatment for the application. This usually results in lower tooling costs, lower maintenance costs and less downtime.

1.2080 / X210Cr12 Steel
DIN 1.2080 / X210Cr12 Steel is a high Carbon and high Chromium cold work tool steel. The 1.2080 steel has good hardenability and wear resistance. But due to the carbon content of X210Cr12 steel is high,which makes this material hard and brittle. So din 1.2080 can not afford a bigger punch load and has low impact toughness.

2. Quench in the oil then cool down;
3. Heat uniformly to the required tempering temperature;
4. Withdraw X210Cr12 steel from the furnace and cool in air;

Applications of DIN X210Cr12 Steel
The 1.2080 tool steel is usually used to make cold die that the impact load is small and with high wear resistance. X210Cr12 steel is also used for cold cutting blade,drill sets,gauge,drawing die,stamping die,thread rolling plate,deep drawing die and thread rolling die,etc.
1.2379 / X153CrMoV12 Steel
DIN 1.2379 / X153CrMoV12 Steel is a high carbon and high chromium type cold work tool steel. The Molybdenum and Vanadium compositon of din 1.2379 is more than 1.2601 steel. X153CrMoV12 steel has higher strength and toughness,which makes the comprehensive performance of 1.2379 steel better.
